Guide to Schools in Perth
Schools in Western Australia are divided between state schools (70%), Independent (15%) and Catholic (15%). The majority of the Independent schools are affiliated to churches, such as Anglican, Baptist, Uniting Church, Lutheran, Muslim. There are also a number of Montessori and Steiner schools.
All government schools are co-educational (boys and girls), while among the private (Independent and Catholic) schools you will also find some which are all male or all female. Several schools also have boarding facilities, some of which cater for a high proportion of overseas students.
School Fees
In government-run schools, there are no fees, although you may be asked to make a voluntary annual contribution of around $40 per child.
At the senior level, you also have to pay fees for book hire.
Fees for private schools vary from around $4000 per year to more than $20,000 per year for the more exclusive private schools.
