Currambine was established in the mid 1990's and is in a good location for the Mitchell freeway for getting into the city, it also has a train station. The freeway runs along the east side of Currambine and the rail track runs down the middle of the freeway.

Just over the freeway and a few minutes drive from Currambine is a sports complex and swimming pool called The Arena which is in Joondalup. It's also a very short drive from Currambine to the ocean and the nearest beach, which is Burns Beach.

Just across the road in the neighbouring suburb of Iluka there is the Beaumaris Sports Complex which provides sporting facilities for local clubs including lawn bowling, cricket, hockey, darts, soccer and rugby.

Currambine also has a good shopping mall called Currambine Marketplace, which has take away shops, restaurants, supermarket, hairdresser, clothes shops etc, the pharmacy & newsagent are open 7 days 8am-8pm. There is also a butcher that specialises in British, Italian & South African food. Next to the mall are Grand Cinema Complex and a DVD hire shop. There is also a small corner shop near the Catholic PS. Just up from the shopping mall is Currambine commercial centre with a small group of fast food outlets and other shops. There are two petrol stations in the suburb too.

There are two primary schools in the area, Currambine Primary School & Currambine Catholic Primary school. The catchment high school for the area is Ocean Reef Senior High School. Currambine PS has an out of school care service run by the YMCA. There's also an early learning centre in the suburb called Currambine Kids Care.

The housing throughout Currambine varies from older properties that could do with some TLC to houses that are well looked after and also larger properties that are quite expensive.

Part of the Joondalup Golf Course is situated in Currambine, there are a lot of two storey houses in this area and some are priced at over one million dollars. There are some blocks of apartments next to the railway station too.

There is a new development in progress called Centra Currambine not far from the shopping mall; it will have smaller villas and town houses. There is also a proposed retirement village getting built close to the train station.
