HI: I am thinking about taking my acoustic guitar with me, but I am afraid it will get damaged because of the difference in the air temperature and humidity. Has anyone ever shipped musical instruments? If so, did they survive OK?

I shipped my acoustic guitar and it got here fine. Having said that I am not sure I would trust the shippers if the instrument was worth alot of money, you can of course take it as luggage on the plane with you but then you are trusting that it doesn't get thrown about by luggage handlers Steve

How did you pack it? Should I buy some super thermo protective packaging or anything like that?

I wrapped it in bubble wrap and the guys who came from the shipping people wrapped it up some more. They generally are quite helpful and careful. Of course if you are really worried then a hard case will solve the problem Steve

Hi - we shipped OHs guitars (acoustic, electric & bass) plus amp and they all survived ok - one thing I would say is buy hard cases for the guitars if at all possible - it will give them a bit more protection on the journey! I think he would have been gutted if anything had happened to his precious gibson guitar but it was perfectly allright (just in need of a tune). We also shipped a piano & that was ok - it was just wrapped in special packing paper by the shippers - some people pay extra and get a wooden frame/box designed for shipping pianos - ours isn't that great a piano & was a last minute inclusion in the container - it helps of course if your container is full - less room for things to rattle around in! Good luck with the move, Sarah PS we also had a drum machine in our suitcase & that arrived with no damage despite the baggage handlers chucking the case around at various airports enroute!
