PERTH'S median house price rose to $460,000 in the last quarter of 2006, up another 4.5 per cent, new Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) figures show.
But REIWA President Rob Druitt said while prices had continued to increase, the rate of growth had slowed.

|Just a comment on the whole Perth being more expensive than Sydney thing....
We have just spent a month in Sydney and have been looking at the house prices while we were there.
In Sydney there are many many many units, flats and appartments, far more than in Perth where there are more detatched houses / bungalows. I dont think the comparison of the cost of a flat is a fair comparison with the cost of a detatched place. The median price comparison between Sydney and Perth is a very unfair comparison that may give people a distorted view of house prices, as they are not comparing like for like. There is no way we could afford to buy a nice house on a decent sized block of land in Sydney without moving way out of the city. However in Perth if you go just 15 or so kms out of the city you could do this.
In my view they are totally different cities with different styles of houses. Looking on websites such as www.realestate.com.au. would be much more helpful for people.
..... Just my ten pence worth as it is something that irritates me.
