Anyone out there to help me, i feel so let down today. We put our house on the market a couple of weeks ago and were coming out to Oz in july with two kids hoping to get a feel for the place and see if we would setle away from home. My husband has been trying for years to get me on that plane and now that ive decided it dosent seem like its going to work out. We were told by oz immigration that we could go over on an ETA tourist visa for a year and the kids could go to school but we would have to pay Fees which was fine. Today we have just been told that they can only go for 3 months shattering our chances of a year in Perth. I have been down every route we dont fit the skilled visa, or family or business etc etc! Has anyone any clue how we can change our lives for the better and come live in Perth!! Can you apply for jobs back home without having a job and residence address for oz? I am even willing to go back to study but not sure if you are allowed any dependants on this. Oh please someone give me something positive to look into. Thanks claire

I'd like to say I feel sorry for you, but to be honest I don't. There is far more to emigrating to Australia than just getting on a plane and landing in the good life. You have done no research at all and have put no effort into your 'dream'. Why should you feel so deflated and dissapointed. If you are serious about moving to Australia, then you will have to face reality and accept that you will have to invest a degree of effort into making your 'Dream' come true. The only real possibility you have, is to re-train in this country in a trade that they require. I have wanted to go to Australia (where I was raised and did most of my schooling though was born in the UK) since I came to the UK 28 years ago. I have been eligible to apply on a number of occasions but personal circumstances have got in the way. Then when my personal circumstances were right, I found myself not eligible. I have been close to nervous breakdown on a number of occasions over this and then just over a year ago when I had given up all hope, I found I was eligible again. You will have to train for a few years, then be employed for a few more before you will be awarded the points you need to apply. There are no short cuts, no fiddles and no back doors. Maureen and I went for our rekkie in 1998 with a view to applying on return and being out there later that year. It is now 9 years later. We have never stopped wanting to go. Maybe this time we will get our visas. If you want it bad enough, you will wait. JIM

Hi Claire, What do you and your husband do for jobs? Are the on the Skills Occupation List or in demand? Me and my boyfriend tried all ways to get in and decided to go down the student visa route to hopefully gain permanent residency at the end, there are heaps of people on this site doing the same thing, most of whom are going to Perth, we are going to Melbourne in July and I am going to TAFE to study a 2 year Diploma in Automotive Technology, (car mechanic) to you and me, all spouses and children can come with you but you can only work 20 hours each per week when school is in and unlimites in holidays, you also need to pay for the kids schooling. The best place to have a look round is www.immi.gov.au which is the Oz governments own website, and also www.studyinaustralia.gov.au. I am no expert I have just sat for hours going through all the sites. Hope this helps. We were in Perth in October and loved it, you can't go wrong there. If you need any more info just Private Msg me Best regards Karen

Hi Claire, I think Jim sounded very harsh in his response. After all you have been let down with your plans. There is a lot of good people offering sound advice on aussimove but also not so good. Any way what you need to do is maybe go on a reckie and have a look to see if you like it. Then look into how you can get to live the dream. I hear lots of people going on student visas so you can live in Australia whilst re training. You would have to still pay for courses and your children's education. I am sure people will advise on this area. After training I think you then have a chance of applying for permanent residence. The other option of course is re train in the uk. I was working in Australia on a working holiday visa as a aromatherapist. Looked into PR and didn't score enough points. Then I was advised to re train as a hairdresser. I went to a private college fulltime re trained C&G, then got a job in a salon. I started training sept 99 and have just got my visa.. I went self employed after 6 months in the salon. But made sure I kept good books, tax records etc I had to provide as many refs as possible. Actually sent 25 plus all tax returns, bank letters etc. I just got through on the time scale. If I'd known about training in Oz then applying thats what I would of done. But with kids it much more difficult. We went over 3 times with my parents as they loved the place but it never happened, we just spent alot of money and wasted alot of time. Poor old dad didn't have his trade on paper and not enough knowledge to make it happen. I again was miss informed when I trained as an aromatherapist at the age of 20 -21 was told it was internationally recognised. It is but not enough points, so if I had been clever enough I would of trained then as a hairdreser not may years later!!! If you want it you can make it happen. But be careful how you go about it as it's not cheap and you could just end up going round in circles. If you want a chat PM me .. Be quick though as we are off to live my dream on th 26th Feb thats cost me thousands in re training and giving up a full time job to work part time just to survive then got treated like dirt in a salon. Hi Claire Don't give up hope. A really good way to get into OZ is the student visa option. If you want to go to Perth then the commerical cookery course that runs for two years is a good way to go and live your dream. My friends left for OZ (Perth beginning of January 07). They did not have any formal qualifications so this was the only route for them. They have to pay for the course and schooling for their daughter. They decided to send her to a private school which cost $2,000 a year. Very good fees for a private school. They have no regrets. They received professional advice from an agent called immigration unit and were advised that if they successful complete the course then they should be eligable for Permanent Residency. PM me if you need more info. Good Luck lee

I sounded harsh because I was being harsh. I admire the effort you have put in to get your visa. You seem focused and to have done your research. What I am advising Claire to do is what you have done and what I have done also (I have always made sure that I was employed in a skill on the SOP since I started working). There seem to be a number of people who use this site who live on a different planet to the rest of us. To put your house on the market and comtemplate moving to the other side of the world to a country well known for its strict immigration laws without even checking eligibility is foolish to say the least. To come on here moaning about the injustice of not being eligible and 'shattered dreams' is bloody irritating to people like me who have fought hard to get this far and still could fall at the last (we still haven't got visas yet). I have offered Claire sound and true advice. If she chooses to continue to try and move to Australia, I wish her and her family well. I will not offer sympathy though, because her case does not warrant sympathy in the same way that I would not get any sympathy if I failed to win the lottery this weekend. JIM

Jim I don't think Claire was asking for sympathy. She may ahve been having a moan but isn't that what this site is here for? I think she was asking for advice as we all do! I have worked hard for what I have got I will never forget a Lawyer in Sydney who basically laughed at me when I mentioned immigration as I was an aromatherapist/ sport massage specialist. My earnings was far more than I could ever earn in the uk but couldn't score enough points. But I originally trained in aromatherapy to get me my PR. I never had the correct advice, made mistakes as we all do. So why waste time in saying oh i've no Sympathy. Just because things haven't gone right for you. I hope you get your visa and hope all your dreams come true. Maybe you will stop being so harsh. Claire must feel awful without you making her feel worse. Michelle

michelle, i hope you dont mind me butting in, i dont think jim was being harsh, just jim like! it seems that both of you have had to wait an extraordinarly long time to have fulfill your dreams of living in australia, i couldnt imagine wanting to live there for 22 years before it happened, much the same way in that jim has lived his entire working life doing jobs that met the occupations on demand list, i hope that while claire will take some info from both of your comments on board, i also hope she will be blessed with the determination and willfullness for a better life in oz that the both of you have and i hope the life you both have from now matches all that you both have strived for matt

Matt No dear I don't mind you butting in. But I thought this web site was to help people. Ask advice, have a moan listen and learn!! So imagine some poor old soles falling madly in love with Australia whilst watching BBC1 over the past few weeks and doesn't have a clue where to start. Imagine no computer!!! I only came across aussimove in 06. But have learnt so much from kind generous people offering to share info where possible. I think thats what it's all about. Not having a dig at someone because they have been mis informed as I was years ago. Lets help and be nice as what goes around comes around!! As for jim being jim like well lets hope he gets his wish!!! Along with millions of others. Regards Michelle

Well Jim what can I say. I am not some idiot who has sat one weekend and decided to move to Oz the next week. We are a lovely family who have all qualities and intellegence that im sure you pocess, lurking somewhere deep inside. I think its you Jim that needs the sympathy, its certainly not us!! I wrote on the web page looking for help and you certainly never replyed to that. You took it upon yourself to be down right rude and judgemental over people you know nothing about. I would be pleased if you could refrain from replying to my messages. love and kisses claire

Okay WHITE FLAG time everyone, lets get this thread back to what it was about in the first place. Claire get in touch with an Agent, some do give free advise, but your best bet would be training in Aus in something that will give you enough points for that longed for permanant visa. It will be costly, but nothing in life is free, certainly not the things that we really want anyway. Good luck and keep us informed with how you are getting on. Regards Jacqui

michelle, i really admire your campassionate side, and have to agree that i feel this site is a place of help and general assistance, but, like that person in sydney who laughed at you, maybe jims cynicsism to claires message just may make her all the more determined to live the life she wants who knows eh!?! matt
