Hi All Could anyone that has already done the move give us their opinion on when they think is the correct time to send belongings on there way. We have been told by Pickfords that as we are having part of a container our stuff could take anything from 6-12 weeks. We were working on the assumption that we would really like to have our stuff with us around 4 weeks after we arrive ( we will be staying with my sister initially until we find somewhere to rent/buy) by then we should be sort of in our own place. If our stuff only takes 6 weeks it needs to only leave us 2 weeks before we go BUT it could take 12 weeks and if it leaves us 2 weeks before we go we will be without it for ages in our new home so should we send it earlier. It would be a great help if we could here others experiences it may help us to reach the right decision. Many thanks Ruth & Jez

Hi Ruth sounds like we are in a similar position. We have the removals co booked for May 10th/11th and we leave on 13th. We got 4 quotes and they all came back with 7-12 weeks to get our stuff to Freo, some saying we could pay extra to have it go on a 'faster' route and take 4-5 weeks. We weren't too bothered. Anyway, once we actually booked a company , they wrote back to confirm the dates they'll come, and told us the ship's name and dates of arrival in Fremantle. It's only 4 weeks !!! So ring around and see what sailings they have. They ought to know if it's in the next couple of months. bfn, Andrea

Thanks Andrea That sounds very reasonable, could I be cheeky and ask who you are using, they sound like they have been very understanding. We are not actually going until October so they may not know this far in advance about the sailings but I will certainly do this nearer the time. Did your company say how long your laod is likely to be held at Freo for customs etc before being sent on it's way to your new address? It's really hard trying to work out the right date to cause as little disruption as possible. Do you have a property to go straight into when you arrive? It sounds like you have it very well sorted, I wondered if we should arrange for our load to leave us just a day or two before we dapart, and be without it at the other end, OH such decisions. Thanks for your help, look forward to your reply. Ruth & Jez

Hi Ruth we are using PSS International. I don't think they'll be able to do much now but I'd imagine any company will tell you which ship etc nearer the time. I think customs clearance is about 2 weeks. We were more concerned about keeping everything here till we were ready to leave. We thought it would be harder to cope without stuff, and add more pressure if we had to move in with family etc at this end, rather than in Oz. So we are staying in our own house (rented - another good move to sell house early !) for as long as possible, and staying in a hotel for two nights before we depart. We will be staying with my sister upon arrival in Perth, but it really doesn't take long to buy a house out there, so we plan to do that asap. And the storage charges are pretty good with PSS if we do need to use them. I'll let you know how PSS performed, after we have arrived and got our stuff ! bfn, Andrea

Thanks Andrea for all that information. Yes we have already sold our house and are living with Jez's parents who are great, I would certainly recommend parting with the house early as you have done as it eases that pressure. It would be great if you could let us know what you think of PSS after the event. Good luck, take care Ruth
