We have recently bought a new car. It is not a high performance car, but a basic family car. What are the import duties like? How expensive are 2nd hand cars out there?

you may want to consult a removals business such as Pickfords etc ( sorry if i am stating the obvious) as they know all the details about this. The big cost will probably be in exporting it and insuring it.

Hi there, we were all for taking our car (saab93,2003) cos it was new and we were keen to keep it. However, after doing the sums we worked out it would cost us $15k in GST, LCT (luxury car tax) the threshold for this is something like $51k and with the dollar getting stonger the $15k could even increase over this..so now we have decided it would be easier to sell the car even for less! Also, customs the other end would prob insist on another steam clean plus then you have to get the car tested for roadworthiness, even if its new! (like our mot) change plates etc... the list is endless. We had a removal quote from PSS
