We live in Hertfordshire. We applied under Skilled Independent using Jez's skills ( he works at BEe in Stevenage) and have had our visas since Nov 02 and activated them in April last year. We sent in the TRA form Jan 01 and received visas Nov 02.
We sold our house last October as our origonal plans were to go earlier this year but we were forced to have a change of plan and delayed it until this October, flight booked so no going back now.
We have been living with Jez's parents who have been fantastic, it has worked out so well and the time has flown(always a good sign).
We have had lots of sadness as far as parting with the two horses and finding fantastic homes for two of the three dogs, the animals are all very happy but we still shed a tear or two from time to time.
We have just had our 40th birthdays but with two daughters aged 17 & 19 are low milage 40yr olds if you get what I mean.
Yes the site is brilliant, its a great help and people are so willing to help in any way they can, it gives you a nice AAHH feeling doesn't it.

|Small world Ruth, I lived in Stevenage for 14 years and my mum and grandad both worked at site B, BAE. we applied under skilled independant too, our passports are still at aus embassy in London, we hope to get them this week. Are your 2 kids going with you? did yours and your kids visa's stipulate u must not enter aus b4 your husband as mels and the kids do?

|Yes, it is a small world, where are you?
Our eldest daughter is staying on here with Granparents until next July, she still has another year of studies as she is training to become a Veterinary Nurse. That was a terribly hard decision to make for all of us but it will be for the best. I wish we had done this emigration thing when they were younger.
Yes it did stipulate that we were not allowed to enter before Jez but now we have activated them we can in theory come & go as we please as individuals if we want.
Do you know you can, with some airlines arrange to take extra baggage, up to 40kg per person, providing you are emigrating and this is your first entry on a permanent visa. Be careful though, we almost lost out on this as when we go in October this will be our second visit as we had our first in April 02 to activate the visas. We apealed to Singapore Airlines and they allowed the extra, we had to have our airline tickets changed to show the 40kg and it took a few e-mails back & forth but it will be worth it.
Anyway, take care

|We are up near Huntingdon, about 40 mins up the A1 from Stevenage, maybe we should email rather than clogging up the message board?

|Yes you are right although hopefully we may have helped someone with our chatter.
