|Sorry in advance if this post is a bit depressing....but i was just wondering if anyone has made a will since arriving in Perth. Just thinking of the kids should anything happen etc arranging temporary guardians/guardianship etc. Anyone had any experience with this that they would like to share?

Yes, We have recently made a will mainly to update one that we made when the kids were young. As well as making a will you are advised to organise enduring power of attorney which takes effect while you are still alive. This is really important because it gives your partner or another 3rd party the authority to act on your behalf should you be incapable of making any decision due to health or injury etc and to sign documents on your behalf.. In our case my husband and I have power of attorney over each other plus one of our sons. You need to have an executor named to handle the will in the event of death and finalise all matters..this can be a member/s of the family, a trusted person, a solicitor or the Public Trustee (who takes a percentage of the proceeds)
We made the will through John Rayburn at Nicholson Clement Lawyers at Mandurah 95351855 and they specialise in Wills and Estates etc. Any lawfirm can do this of course and you can do your own but there's quite a few pitfalls to be aware of esp if there's more than one marriage or children from another marriage etc. The cost was $110 p/p for the will and $80 each for Power of Attorney. They will also store the will at no cost at their office and give you copies.
Hope this helps and I would definitely get it done sooner rather than later.
