|Hi, I'm about to have my house reposseded in the UK because my tenant moved out & I've been unable to find another one. Does anyone know if this will affect me over here in Australia. Do mortgage companies in the UK search for people in Australia? I'm on the verge of packing my bags & heading back the UK just so I don't get into trouble, but I'm only 3 months away from getting my perm visa.... Thanks|

|My other half looked into this just in case of the exact same thing arising.
You cannot add anything to an Australian or New Zealand credit record unless the debt arises in Aus or NZ. The UK credit authorities can try and find you here and if successful then they can TRY and get you to pay up. However, unless they can get a judge here to sign relevant court orders they cannot enforce anything, just threaten.
With the changes in visa requirements I guess you need to work out what your visa is worth and what you would lose if your house was repossessed in the UK. Can't you speak with the bank there and tell them you're trying to sell it yourself etc., with a below market price you're surely likely to get more that the bank foreclosing andselling just to cover their costs.
Good luck either way!
