|Can anyone recommend the best place to hire a car when we get to Oz. We are going to buy one when we arrive but dont want to rush into a purchase just so we can have some wheels. A couple of weeks with a rental would be ideal. We are being picked up from the airport so would only need the car once we arrive at our friends house in Woodvale or we would be able to collect it from somewhere. Thanks|

|M2000 were very good. Cheap as well. We did the same as you and hired for 2 weeks initially but kept it for 3 or 4 weeks (just ring them up to add time on). You will need a credit card, so bring a UK card with you (don't tell them your are moving though otherwise they will cancel it).
(I've just realised that I have given free advertising to a car hire company.. Bugger)|

|Trouble with Bayswater is the 'no birds' sticker on the side of the car. This identifies the car as being hired and therfore makes it a target for thieves. |

|Northside also display a rental sticker in the rear window. As far as I remember M2000 do not have anything identifying it as a hire car.|

They don't, and they were cheaper than Bayswater (albeit three years ago). If you go to a tourist attraction (say Penguin Island), it is not uncommon to see three or four identical white cars with 'no birds' stickers on the side. They are often targets for opportunist theives who know that the car is rented and that the boot probably contains a few valuables.
Do shop around for a hire car. We went to Hertz in Adelaide Terrace and they wanted $1500 for two weeks. They said that with a straight face as well. We then crossed the road to Bayswater (10 metres walk) and they wanted $250 a week. I asked them if they had cars without the ad on the side and the lady helpfully pointed me towards M2000 (about 20 metres walk).|

How about 'budget' rentals near Fremantle.
I am planning to move in Jan 2011 and have been quoted about AUD 1450 for a month for a Hyundai 1.6 Auto. But not sure whether this is expensive than the market rates.
I thought it would make sense not rushing to buy a car on arriving. So thought of going with the rental idea.
