I am emmigrating in 3 weeks, a few helpful tips for you..
Banking - Westpak - open account online, you get email and letter confirmation within 24 hours, they also do follow up call to make sure you have account details.
Applying takes 5 minutes...Westpak worker said when you go down to the branch to activate your account with I.D, they also sort your driving licence out for you, your Tax file number.
Also, they do a sausage sizzler evening for all new expats so you can find a few people local to you who are in the same boat!
I can't fault their service!
HiFX - I have opened an account today - extremely helpful, best rates, and easy to sort by email and e-banking!!

Blimey, things have changed. We arrived and went to the branch in the city on day 1 to activate our account and were told we would have to wait a week because they were busy. We did the TFN ourselves on the net a few days after we arrived and the driving licences at the local licencing centre (three hours lining up). As for a sausage sizzle??

we also used westpac like you are doing,in 2007. But we had to sort our own TFN number
(on the internet) and did driving licence at our local centre. Very easy.

|I can't see Westpac sorting out your driving license or TFN. A memeber of the transport department has to sight your UK license and you have to have your picture taken. I could be wrong, but I can't see it myself.
You do have to provide the bank with your TFN to avoid the tax being taken out of your account. This could possibly be done at the bank, all it takes is filling in a form.
liane_and_lee, could you get back to us and let us know if Westpac did indeed sort these out for you.|

|Would be great if they did do that but like all the other people that have commented, we too had to make an appointment in the main branch and provide the 100points at the time. i do know that you only need passport etc now!! even when we did do the appointment we were there for hours. the most they gave us was crayons and paper for our 12, and 9 year old children lol
maybe i work for the wrong bank and need to move and offer to do this meet and greet sausage sizzle!!!
other banks allow you to open accounts on line but dont think they offer this service, TFN we sorted out online and Drivers licence was sorted out at the local office within 20mins needing and eye test and photo, not sure how westpac do this unless they have teamed up????
keep us updated upon arrival as to whether they have come through with the promise would be good to know the information to pass on to friends looking at the migration process.|

|I was just about to say you are having a laugh, but apparently there was a sausage sizzle outside the Westpac at Lakeside last week!. We arrived in March and did the TFN's online and the driving Licences in Joondalup.
