Hi all, We are also moving to Perth soon, live in JHB South Africa. The info on lifestyle in Perth and people there are so much appreciated. I am so nervous and scared for this big change in our lives. But after reading some messages I feel more positive towards our future in Aus. Just wish we are settled already. Our children are 1,4 and 6 years old, and are everything to us,and I hope we make the right choices regarding where to stay and choosing the right school. Can anyone share their children's experience on how they adapt to the new schools and espesially communicating in school and how that affect them if their first language is Afrikaans. We are sending our children for english classes at the moment, they do understand the language well but still have a lot to learn when it comes to speaking it. Is this a big problem and what effect does it have on them. Any comments would be appreciated. Many Thanks Yolandi

Hello Yolandi It's a big move no doubt but I'm sure it's the right one for you too. Having spoken to several South African families who have settled here in the UK there's not one who regrets making the move. I can't help you with your school or area choices but as regards schooling for children whose first language is not english I think you have little to worry about. It never ceases to amaze me how fast children can pick up a foreign language when they are immersed in it and your children will have a head start if they can understand some english already. It takes confidence to start talking but I'm sure you will find that once they get going there will be no shutting them up. Good luck with your life changing journey, I hope you will all be very happy. Cathy
