Hi All Just wanted to warn people of a holiday rental property that is advertised here and on holiday lettings, stayz etc. We spent less than a week in a property called Migrants Haven on Santa Barbara Parade, Quinns Rocks. We were supposed to stay in the property for 5 weeks but moved out early. The owner of this house entered the house without our permission on a few occassions while we stayed there and when my husband confronted him about this, he laughed and said 'It's my house - I can do what I like.' We have two young girls and could not tolerate this. It was extremely unsettling to not know if this person would turn up at anytime while we were in or out. Each time we had to leave the house to go shopping etc, we took our personal documents with us as we could not trust that the owner wasn't snooping while we were out. The photos used in the advertisements were clearly taken many years ago as the property is in desperate need of updating - the bedroom windows have strips of wood along the base as the window locks are broken, the smoke alarms are without power or batteries which is surely illegal on a rental property, 80% of the walls in the house are damaged and have been patched up and it has the noisiest retic system I've ever heard which woke everyone up while it ran from 3am to 7am on one of the nights we were there. (The retic control box was locked so couldn't be turned off.) We left the property early and promised the property owner that as we were terminating the rental lease early, we would pay a sum of money to compensate for this. Before the agreed payment date, the owner started sending threatening texts to me (not my husband), saying that I had 4 hours to pay - or else. Then I received a text threatening that he would meet me with a friend at the airport when we leave Australia and that it would be embarrassing for me - guaranteed. He got the payment on the agreed date and we haven't heard from him since. I just want to warn people of this as it really was an unpleasant experience to both stay in the house and to deal with the owner. The owner is not acting like a professional landlord so please be wary if making a booking with him.

Did you consider contacting the police if he was threatening towards you. Txt messages are evidence of such threats. Just wondered? Glad you are all safe. x

We were in that place for a month, it was discusting, we didn,t meet the owner, there was a lady dealing with it, but i think she was embarrased about it! We were all ill whilst staying there, what gave us some concearn also was there were cobwebs everywhere outside! We did notice that none of the neighboughs spoke to us even when we tried to make the effort, now i wonder why! Not the best experience on arrival to Australia eh! I agree...stay away from migrants haven! As cindy41 says, if you still have the text messages go to the police, thats a good point, nail him!!!

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad time there too. Yes, the cobwebs outside and around the outdoor furniture we horrible. I do still have the text messages. I thought about going to the police at the time, but because we were having to move, my parents were arriving and it was Christmas, I didn't have the energy. I might contact them soon though as I'd hate this to happen to someone else.

I would also contact Stayz. I am sure they want their properties to be well maintained and the fact that he came in when you were out is totally unacceptable.

I know he has another property - I've heard negative things about this too - apparently its also dirty and the furniture pictured in the house isn't actually there. I have contacted Stayz and Holiday Lettings - not sure what they will do about it, but I feel better knowing I've done what I can with this situation.

Hi All, this is interesting stuff and just found out about this comment. I am the owner of Migrants Haven. We run a very well respected holiday rental business in the northern coastal suburbs and have helped many migrants from aussiemove as well to offer neat, clean and very well equipped fully furnished accommodation. We own several properties ,run this business for more then 5 years , offered over 300 families accommodation and have hardly ever had an issue with one of our guests. In fact we keep guestbooks at our places and they are filled with raving comments about the service provided, the well equipped houses and cleaningness ...Except for mr Mark, Gill and the girls unfortunately. They had booked our place for 5 weeks indeed and apparently had to return back to the UK for 'personal reasons' which is fair enough and accepted. As we were only given a few days notice I proposed to the family involved to take some responsibility and to pay for an extra week to allow me to find other tenants which is only more then reasonable i suppose?. This was agreed. Actually it was agreed by a firm handshake on thursday afternoon with a promise to pay the week compensation by monday due to apparently an issue with their aussie bank account (?)which really did not make any sense to me but anyway they appeared to be a nice couple and gave them the advantage of the doubt. By Friday they were gone without a notice...... Not even a simple phone call with an explanation. We have tried to call the friendly runners 4 times in 3 days and have kindly asked to call us back with an explanation why they decided to leave early. No reply at all and by wednesday it was pretty obvious that this friendly couple had decided to take a run home to the UK and leave the landlord out of pocket...That is where i decided to send a text message or two a couple of hours before they went on the plane back to the UK with no payment received still.... No threats but a few strong reminders about our gentlemens agreement and a suggestion for me to collect the monies at the airport. That is where Mark finally called me back with a shivering, nervous voice and confirmed that he paid the balance that morning of the flight back to the UK as the wife Gill apparently wasn't really comfortable with the whole situation of trying to run away from a small financial obligation. As for me entering the property without a notice that is just a pathetic lie and a poor twist of the reality to justify their actions to the readers of this blog. Again we have had over 300 families staying with us in the past 5 years and everybody will sincerely confirm that we have always respected the privacy required in a rental agreement. I honestly can't understand what twisted mind came up with a story of me 'snooping around' while they were gone. It is outrageous and really, really sad.... I can only say to Mark and Gill that you are responsible for your own actions. I sincerely hope that you will find your bearings again back in the UK because i don't think this country needs migrants to disrespect and dishonour other hardworking families... cheers mate.... PS Migrants Haven is WYSIWYG. The photos represent the reality. I will offer anybody on this blog to book and stay for free if you don't like what you see... And that is a promise...

I can understand you wanting to get your side of the story over to other potential clients but I dont see how this message is going to help the situation !!! Obviously there must be times when clients are just not happy with a holiday home for one reason or another, thats just how it is. Other clients may stay in the same house and have no problems what so ever, we are all different. Quite alot of people on aussie move actually know each other in person and Mark and his family have been friends of ours for quite some time. Not wanting to get involved with any of your argument regarding the holiday home but like I said I dont see how slanging others off can be good for your business !!!

I wonder if it's because people are looking to book their rentals for the summer season that has prompted your reply to our comments. It's been over 8 months since we left Australia so you have taken your time. I am not going to get into a pointless argument with you regarding your property other than to point out that it is not of a decent standard - as confirmed by other Aussie movers who have stayed there. We did pay you the money agreed as we always intended to do. You sending threatening text messages to my wife did not change this - which reflects our honesty and integrity. Yes we were a few days late getting payment to you but that hardly justifies the angry, threatning text messages you left my wife - even though you had my mobile number. As for my nervous, quivering voice - really?!? I think my telling you to leave my f*'king wife alone and to stop harrassing her were hardly the actions of a nervous person. We know from speaking to other people that you do not have a clean record in terms of renting out Migrants Holiday. We heard that you threatened another woman who told you she was unhappy with the rental - so it's clearly your tactic when dealing with unhappy customers - avoid speaking with the husband and threaten the woman. We are a hardworking, responsible family who have a great deal of respect for people who deserve it.

Dont think they have done their business any good by putting their message on aussie move for all to see and disclosing personal information. In fact all they have done is remind everyone to stay away from Migrants Haven in Quinns Rock !!!

I give my full support to these people who have stayed at 'MIGRANTS HAVEN' as i said some time ago the place was discusting, i wouldn't put a dog in there, and outside there were cobwebs everywhere, we did politly let the lady know who was looking after the place, she was lovely, but nothing was done!....not a good first impression of Australia!
