Our friends, Mick and Maxine, are flying back to the UK via Dubai in March. Their daughter's passport only has four months before it expires. They are going to renew it whilst they are back in the UK. They have been told that a passport has to have at least six months left on it to be able to fly. Does anyone know if this is correct?
They would really appreciate some advice.

|very much correct
to be honest they are going to know that they are living overseas and that is why we didnt take the risk the last time as when you call and confirm your passport number they tell you how long you have been in and out of the country
we got the girls passports done out here and they were done within 2 weeks
think it was around $114 and we just made an appointment at the post office online and they did the pictures and everything
i know it is a little more expensive but so much easier!!

|My understanding is they need 6 months left it is a foriegn passport, eg going into the UK on a UK passport with less than 6 months doesn't matter, but entering the UK on a foriegn passport with less than 6 months, or entering Oz on a UK passport with less than 6 months left is a no no.|

This actually happened with my daughter's passport. We had a trip back in august last year and while i was checking the passports on the way to the airport i noticed she only had 3 months left on it! we were fine flying out of perth but were told we wouldn't be allowed back into oz on it so as soon as we landed in UK we made an appointment at the passport office in London and did it all in 4 hours. hope this helps Jo|
