Not really, the poisenous snakes tend to eat them. Same with sharks, usually the stinging jellyfish keep them away from the beaches. The odd one slips through but the blue ringed octopuses take care of them. I'd be more worried about the giant mutant cockroaches, dive bombing magpies in spring time and having your home over run by millions of ants.

hi, i have been here 3 months, live in ocean reef and have barely seen anything in the house. i saw a couple red backs outside the house, which are timid and i have two weaving orbs at the back of the garden and that is where they will stay. i am doing pest control and i dont even see many then. most people are complaining about ants because of the recent hot summer. You may see more in the rural parts around perth.

Kim I have lived in Aus for four years almost now, I am terrified of spiders, and yes I have seen a handful of large ones that are totally harmless, the odd redback but in the main you don't see them. My advice is to get your home sprayed so you don't need to worry about them, and I know you will look for them when you get here but again the best thing is not to look for them, you will not find if you don't look. just keep your eyes out for the beautiful birds and landscape instead. You soon forget about the spiders.
