We'll be arriving in Perth in August. We had planned on renting but wondered how easy it would be to get a Mortgage? Obviously in the UK you would need at least 3 months payslips ordinarily to even be considered for a mortgage - can anyone help? We'd most likely have a substantial deposit to put down 10 - 50%.

We have been here 6 months today and have signed the papers for our motgage this evening. Our experience has been really straight forward and Westpac have been fantastic. We have both been working since December but I was only taken on permanently in March but they were quite happy with this you just need to make sure you are out of your probationary period. If you want any further info please message me.

Thanks for that. I've seen a few people say it's quite cheap to buy property out there, whereas rent is quite high. Did you find many bargains?

We are building a new house so not really sure about it being a bargin. I do not think it is really any different to the UK. It depends on your situation (not being part of a chain obviously helps,) what you want and what you are prepared to compromise on and of course location, location, location! Most houses are on www.realestate.com.au and you are able to search by area and once you arrive the Saturday paper has a huge property section.
