|Under the terms of my employment and immigration I need to have private medical insurance for my family and I. Can anyone tell me how this works, as we don't know what date we will be moving to Perth. Also can anyone recommend a company.

|My partner and I have a fully comprehensive annual insurance policy with Virgin (see link below) which was suffice for our arrival and obtaining a VISA. We intend on getting a BUPA International Policy or similar on arrival ourselves.

|2 big companies in Australia are Medibank private and HBF.A quote from each of them would be worthwhile.

We were asked for prrof of Medical cover when we applied for our 457. We applied online to Medibank they took payment details to be deducted in September 2011 (when we assume the visa will be approved). You just have to advise them if you arrive earlier, or later. The create an online acceptance letter which we were able to attach to our application. For a family of 6 Medibank was the most cost effective. Hope this helps!

|We had to provide evidence that we had adequate medical cover when we applied for our Visa online.
We went with Medibank, which was, for a family of 6, quite good value. We had to give bank details (we have an account in Oz already) with a commencement date of September 2011. We hope the visa will be approved by then. You then get an a letter which can be attached to the online Visa application. If you arrive ealier, you just go into any Medibank office and amend the start date for your cover.|
