Can anybody please advise me I went to my bank Barclays and they advise me that if I am out of the country for more than 6 months I am not meant to keep an account open in the UK by rights.
The only thing is I have a rental property here in the UK which I am going to keep on until or if the prices start going up and have the rent payments paid into my account.
What do must people do in this situation please? Do must people who emigrate still keep an account open or do they transfer it into there Aussie Bank Account?
I would really appreciate any advice on this matter.

I have lived here for 7 years now and have always had a UK bank account. In fact, my bank were very keen to keep my account open as I did think about closing it. It is handy to have for holidays back to the UK and for internet purchases. I have no fees to pay so the money just sits there.

|Hi, we have only been in Oz since Jan but have kept our Barclays account open and just provided my parents address as our new home address in the UK. We also signed my Dad up to access our accounts in our absence just in case we needed to sort something out and obviously couldn't do it in person. Hope this helps. Andrea.

We did the same, used my parents address for bank stuff. Good idea to keep it open even with a minimal amount in.

|Same goes for us as for donaa2. It comes in useful. The bank originally told me the same thing about the 6 months but they have never complained since. It is all just box-ticking on the tellers part and doesnt mean anything in reality.|
