Good Morning/Afternoon We have just started the visa process, we sent all our forms away yesterday (1066 & 956) and we are now at a point where we don't know what to do next, apart from wait and do as much research as possible? My work are sorting a lot of the stuff out over there, they are paying for medicals, shipping of our stuff, visas etc We are wondering where some of the best places are to rent ie, child friendly with shops and cafes near by, also somewhere near work (Canning Vale) but close to the beach as well? We have looked at Freemantle, Willage, Coogee, Murdoch and Atwell, any info on these places would be very much appreciated? Also we are wondering about which bank to go with and how to go about transfering our savings and exchange rates, any info would again be very helpful? Thank you in advance. Michael

Hi, our journey started the same way as yours and I found the Blogs on this site helpfull. I sent private messages to those who seemed to have slimiar experiences and asked them how they did things, where to look for info and things to think of. The different sections and info on the home page are also very usefull. The average Visa application takes 3 months but our was proccessed in 18 days so you have to be prepared for either senerio (or even longer than 3 months) Our container left with our belongings this afternoon and we leave on Monday (spending a week in California with family first and will arrive in Perth on July 20th) My advice in this area is to start early.......if you think it's early enough start 2 weeks before that!! Do you have children? Where are you coming from? We are moving from Eastern Canada (Nova Scotia)we have an apartment in Subiaco for 2 months until we find a house. I'm not sure how much I can help you right now but i'll have some experiences to share once we arrive on the 20th! Cheers Alison

Freo would be my choice for what you are after hands down, but it is pricey.

Hi Just a word of advice, we thought we would have three months to get sorted but our visas were processed in 3 working days. We are also looking to move to Fremantle, as I have a job in the hospital there. We are looking at Melville, Hamilton Hill and Atwell. I don't think you can make your mind up until you are there. We have children to put into schools so that would be the most important thing to look for in an area. With regards to banks, we have opened a bank account with Commonwealth Bank, they open a transfer account for you and will move the money when you tell them to, it was really easy to set up. We spoke to them first at a migration expo and they couldn't have been more helpful. They are also linked with Quantas Airlines so offer a good deal on migration flights. My advice is get sorting your house now, as it will take you longer than you think. We are still sorting stuff two months along and our shipping date is in two weeks. I hope this helps. Ellen

Thank you for all your replys, they have all been very helpful. I was very surprised at how quick it can be to get your visas back. As for suburbs we are still unsure but we have spent most of the weekend on real estate websites checking out all the suburb profiles, may just wait till we get over there before we decide. Will keep you all posted on how we get on. Thank you once again, hope to speak to you all very soon, Michael
