|Hi, our landlord has let us have a dog. We fetched her last Saturday! They advised us we'd need to pay a $260 pet bond and could only have a small dog but apart from that nothing else. Think it very much depends on the landlord though and can be quite restricting in what properties you can look at. We were lucky as we've been in this house for nearly 10 months and asked the question and got a positive response. I have however just found our I need to register her with the local authority which I need to do and pay for this week! Hope that helps a bit |

|we struggled to rent with a dog this time round we went for 20 houses but our area was very small of where we would live . once in all good i just got quicker at the applications and provided a reference from my previous landlord in regards to my pet not causing damage as they look at the info they have with ur app before they ring your references . most rentals are pets negotiated
im leaving mine in carramar in sept

Sorry to butt in onto your thread but what references do they tend to need ideally? Is it normally from a previous landlord like here in the UK? What happens if you have never rented before? Can you get character references from friends etc?

We've just arrived with 2 dogs and where dreading trying to find somewhere to rent but we've not had a problem. We provided them with previous landlord references and character references (for the dogs) from friends and neighbours. We've also rented our house in NZ and used our property agent as a reference as she obviously saw the condition of our house living in it with the 2 dogs. We also have a furnished place here at the moment while waiting for our container and the landlords here where quite happy to provide a reference for the dogs. We also had the dogs in the car if we went to a viewing so the agent could meet the dogs if they needed to.
First application and we got our house with $260 pet bond, this just covers cost of treating the carpets for fleas if any appear. In some areas you may have to be prepared to offer a bit more on the weekly rent, just depends where you want to live.
We had one agent explain to us that some area's are really popular one week then the next they have houses which take a couple of weeks to rent out.
Hope this helps - shout out if you have any more questions
