I've just been on a trip back to the UK, plus over to France and the US. I had a brilliant time and found all the other countries cheaper than WA. By far the biggest difference in prices was that of beer in pubs. In the US it's about USD4 per pint, in France, they don't really do pints, but a 250ml bottle is about 2 euros. Even in the heart of London you can find a pint for GBP3. Why are we having to pay $10 over here?? Is it taxes or are the pub landlords just being greedy? It's a shame because pub life is still a big part of life in the UK, but it's just unaffordabvle over here.

WA is a boom state and EVERYONE is on six figure salaries. Still, that's a long and costly way to go and have a pint.

Perth is the most expensive average in Oz that Ive come across. The excuse is that we are so far away so the freight brings it up, however Darwin is considerably cheaper and almost as remote with a less than a tenth of the population so not sure that is right. We are daft enough to pay those prices, so thats what they charge.

Ps, hip flasks are a good investment. It might be a erring on the naughty, but pub prices are truly criminal.

Maybe it's not a bad price to pay for the miners, but unfortunately I am not on a 6 figure salary so I can't afford to drink at pubs, or pay for the taxi home when there's no public transport. I've decided I'm going to give up drinking in the pub. With the money I save I can easily buy an air asia flight back to the UK each year - and I'll have money left over to spend on cheap booze in the pubs once I get there. I think we should all boycott expensive booze in the pubs over here - then the price might have to come down. In the meantime I'm going spending in Dan Murphys.

I couldnt agree more and while we are boycotting wht not boycott B.P. fuel stations so they have to come in line with the other fuel stations and so on and so forth. I cant understand that in Neerabup there are two fuel stations that keep there costs in line but around the corner in Ridgewood (maybee 300mtrs) there is a B.P. station charging what they want and people are filling up. Anyway ive driffted, who has tried the belgian bar on Murray St? what a rip off, I couldnt believe it when i went there, never again... Baz
