Has anyone heard any reports about the new Alkimos Baptist College based at Merriwa just now (good or bad). Thanks Kendal

We had someone pull their child out of our school to send him there earlier this year, they are bringing him back next year. Baptists schools have some very strange views, take a google at their thoughts on creationism. Personally I wouldn't touch a Baptist school with a ten foot barge pole for this very reason. Ultimately the school will move up to Alkimos so keep that in mind if you enrol. Have you looked at Peter Moyes. Where have you managed to get a rental?

My son is at ABC (year 5) and loves it. He was previously on the waiting list for Joondalu BC but then we found out that ABC was being staffed by teachers from Joondalup and so we moved him. The school's ethos is strictly enforced but the kids still have lots of fun. Class sizes are small (currently ~260 kids in Kindy thru Yr 8) with a range of abilities in each class. The school campus is also very small as they are leasing a campus previously built by Kingsway College and they will be there for another year while a permanent site is established. In our experience the teachers are dedicated to developing their student academic ability as well as preparing them as 'well rounded' little people (something we didn't see in our son's previous school). In my son's Yr 5 NAPLAN results the school average was above the national standard in all subjects. My only concern is time it's taking to secure a permanent site. The school is confident a new building will be ready for 2013 and I hope they are successful. P.S. I hear they now have a waiting list for most years.

Definitely an example of 'horses for courses' !! We're not in the least bit religious & haven't found anything to worry about (so far) re: religious education. I feel the same as you about Catholic schools & wont' go near them - everyone tells me they're different to the UK but I just can't seem to get over my aversion to them.

I agree horses for courses and I am not religious either but I have a problem with their views on creationism.

Carole, we have managed to get a rental in Butler next to East Butler Primary. Kids start there tomorrow. It wasn't our first choice but we had real difficulty getting anything else. K
