Hi All, My girlfriend and I are hoping to move to Brisbane in the new year. This is our first time living abroad. As a pointer what are priorities upon arriving in Australia - do we need to register for social security numbers etc...? Somebody has reccommended National Australia Bank? As they do not charge you for banking services? Is this the case?

In reality, you want to open a bank account, get a TFN (tax file number), medicare number. As far as the NAB not charging... I've not heard that. I get free transaction with ANZ, but that's through my work

Hi NAB don't have any bank charges on some accounts....we have one where as long as you deposit $5000 per month into it there are no charges. Probably best to contact the banks direct as they can tell you what might work best for you!! Hope that helps
