Hi All. Has anyone recently applied for a UK Passport renewal in Oz.? Does anyone know if they send the old passports back seperately via snail mail? We have just renewed our sons passport and received his new passport within 1 week - great service. However, it has been a week since the new one arrived and we have not yet received his old passport, which holds his visa, back. I have contacted Australia Post passport service and they have no idea. I can contact the UK Embassy Passport Servive in Wellington by phone for a whopping $6 a minute but as I'm sure it will take at least 5 minutes to listen to the automated multi-choice menu before even thinking of speaking to a human, I would rather not make the call. Any clues or help would be greatfully received. Cheers Nicki (Mornington Peninsula)

When I applied for a new one for my daughter, I did it at Auspost and they sent off the application but we didn't have to send off the old passport. They verified the passport, signed the forms and sent it off. I kept the one that was due to expire. Just go to DIAC and get a new visa in the new passport.

Thank you. I am now very nervous and can feel a $50 phone call coming on. I telephoned Aus Post yesterday and they said that they always take the old passort. Guess I just have to cross all of my fingers!!

You can just do what Marshy said and pop into the city and sort a new visa. But I think I have read somewhere that even this isn't necessary, everything is electronic now, so when your passport is scanned at the airport they know what visa is attatched to it. Save yourself all the anguish and ring the visa office in your city and ask them.

Tisme is right, you dont need another visa stamp, it is all dealt with electronically. I had this with mine a few years back.
