|Hello folks, we have been looking into a move to Australia and if all goes well we hope to be heading out there towards the end of the year. We haven't decided yet whether to get a container or ship our goods out as groupage as the only really large item we have to bring is a 2002 reg Land Rover Discovery. I've been on various sites trying to determine the import cost, cost of a similar vehicle out there, cost of cleaning before export etc and really am none the wiser as to whether it makes economic sense to ship it out there. I presume there is someone here who has brought their vehicle out with them, if so could you tell me if it was worth it or would I be better off trying to sell it before I go? By the way, we are coming from Ireland and the value of second hand cars, especially 4x4's has plummetted here! I reckon I would be lucky to get |

You might want to head over to http://www.aulro.com
It's the biggest t'internet LandRover community in the world, based in Australia.
If I were you I'd get some info/advice from the guys and gals over there.
I'm a member on there also (username AussieAub)
I too have a Disco - http://aussieaub.blogspot.com
Depending on when you arrive, you might be keen on an event I help organise over here
Feel free to drop me a PM if need be.....

|We brought out my husbands ducati motorbike. Cost us $3000 with all the checks and registration we had to do to get it on the road. Worth it in this case as dukes are very expensive over here.
Had a friend who bought a land rover and wished they had bought an Aussie car instead, had so much trouble with it and parts were difficult to get. Worth considering. |

|Disagree on the LandRover parts bit. Just need to know where to go and who to use.
There's no more trouble getting LR parts or servicing here as there is any other brand, and certainly no more expensive, irrespective of the 'rumours'.
As I said, just need to know where to go and who to use.

|Thanks Kathryn, we have a Harley Street Bob which will definitely be coming with us as we move. We looked up th price of them over there & it's scary, besides the Harley is a easier & cheaper to ship & import.
Kieren, I registered on the site but still haven't gotten around to actally posting anything on it.|
