|My wife and I are moving to Victoria, can anyone recommend a freight company or suggest the cheapest way of bringing over furniture etc...If anyone has any experience would a 20ft container be sufficient for the contents of a small house? Any idea of ball park cost? and thanks :) |

|Where are you moving from? We're moving from South Africa to Perth in July. We haven't decided which removal company we'll use but it'll be an international removals company like Stuttafords or Crown or Pickfords, some smaller companies are local and they use international companies. A small household whould fit into a 20ft container and the cost from SA to Perth is R33000 (GBP3000), we have a large household as well as two old Mini Cooper S's, 5 motorbikes and a hec load of tools and garage stuff and we're taking 2 containers. You could also go partload where you share your container, it costs a little less but in real terms is more expensive. We have a few friends who've left from South Africa to Scotland and from South Africa to New Zealand and from South Africa to USA and also from UK to South Africa and all of them have said it's best to get your own container even if it is not full because it can't leave until it is full so if your stuff goes in first then you wait for the other people's stuff to get put in before the container leaves and you also have to wait for the people on the other side to get their things before you can get yours.
The removal company will not only be shipping your household but your memories and it's better to use a reputable firm.
If you're moving from the UK I think the cost of a 20ft container would be in the region of GBP6000, but I may be wrong, just working on South Africa being in the middle of the UK and Australia.|

|Hiya - well we've just had the last of our 4 quotes. We had Britannia, PSS, Anglo-Pacific & Crown. Overall Crown were the most impressive and most expensive but their price included everything including the customs fees - and the big bonus with them is that it's Crown at both ends, all the others use handlers in Australia.
We've got a 2 bed semi & are not taking all our furnature or the fridge and I guestimated at half a 20' container. How wrong was I?! By the time we'd actually cubed it up it will only just fit in a full 20 footer - it's amazing how many boxes of stuff you actually have when you work it out - it's not the big stuff that takes all the space!!
Anyway, prices ranged from |
