We are only leaving South Africa at the end of June, my husband starts work in July. We are going to use an agent but haven't decided on which one yet. The agents don't clean anything for us and I am quite particular about my things and would hate to have anything confiscated so we have started cleaning and sorting everything into categories. Most of our stuff is already packed because it has been in storage since September, but when we packed up house it was just because we were going to build a house, so we packed the things haphazardly - we have bedroom things with bathroom things and sitting room things with kitchen things, etc, we also never marked what was in each box. in December an opportunity to go to Aus came my husband's way and he took it. We are just sorting thing together and making lists of what is in each box but not sealing the boxes in case the removal company want to check that everything is legit and repack it. As we finish a box we wrap it in plastic and pack it in the garage so that no dust gets onto the actual box.

What would they do if they found something that we missed? Would they destroy our entire container or just the item that wasn't 100%. I have washed all my linen and curtains and had it dry cleaned, and the bicycles and motorbikes and bike and car spares have been cleaned to almost new and crated.

Hi Chantelle Sounds like you've got it covered! If they find something they don't like they will normally ask you if you are willing to pay for it to be cleaned etc, if not it will be disposed of. To be honest it didn't seem like they had opened alot of our stuff. We wrapped all our wooden ornaments together in 1 box, same for shoes & camping stuff etc, had no problems at all. Even shipped my walking boots which were still a bit muddy as couldn't get those last bits out.

Thanks, I was just concerned they would confiscate the entire container for a little bit of dirt. Will do my best to get everything clean. What cleaning agent do you think is the best?

We were told to get a certain brand, I think there was a list of them provided by our shipping company but in the end we just got a huge container of lemon smelling cheap stuff, did the trick!
