|Can anyone help us, we are moving to over in June 07 and we need to find out about taking a car over there. Does anyone know what costs are involved with shipping and export? Has anyone had experience in this? Is it worth buying new /second hand out there?
Any advice would be most helpfull.

|Hi Paul & Denise
We are taking our car with us from NZ, purely because there are so many imports here from Japan and you can hardly give a second hand car away!! You have to get an import permit from Canbberra for the car, in order to get this you have to have owned the vehicle for 12 consecutive months. The permit costs $50. There is the cost from the shipping company, you will need a 40 container assuming you are taking your household effects too, so get a quote from them, our container is costing us $11251.00 for house and car. The car has to be totally cleaned to almost new condition by a car groomer and ask for a certificate stating what they have done. Once you get to OZ the car will be inspected by a mechancical inspector, you will need to pay GST and customs on it and if it is a flash car you will have to pay Luxury tax on it too. You will need to register it and obtain the rego plates for it too. Send me a PM and I will forward the info to you if you want.
Hope this has helped you

We plan to go in Aug '06 and had been checking out the script with shippinh out our car, we downloaded a lot of information from the net about this, the car we had was a brand new Ford Focus C-Max and after working out the importing charges, approval and hidden extras we decided it was a lot of hassle and money so therefore sold the car and will buy when we get there. I have info here and I will forward it to you by email if you want to forward your email address by private mail.
