Visa Application
06 Dec 2008
Guess what I have in my grubby little paws??? Yip, you've guessed it! Passports for the whole family with 457 visas in them! We could leave tonight if we liked! What an amazing thing and privilege it is to have the right to live in Australia for 4 years!

Next step is the permanent visa application but that will be done within Australia.

Our 457 visas have been approved!!! This is really happening! Next step is to take our passports off to the High Commission and have the visa labels stuck in them. Everything is definitely now ... flights can be booked, notice can be handed in at work, furniture removal plans can be confirmed, etc, etc. (faint)

I had a feeling we would hear some official visa news today ... and we did! The employee nomination has been approved by the immigration department. It happened last week already. The department can now finalise the processing of the visa application subject to the usual requirements such as health and character being met. I'm a bit concerned as we haven't been told to go for our police clearances. I even raised this question earlier with the migration solicitor but she didn't seem concerned about it for immediate purposes. Time will tell. Things are moving like lightning.

Oh boy! The medical results arrived safely last week so the visa application was lodged today. The migration agent is running about 2 weeks ahead of schedule as we did the medicals so quickly. It could take a mere 2 more weeks to have the result ... ! This is happening FAST. If it all comes together, we could be leaving early Jan (flight availability permitting).

We submitted the completed questionnaire and copies of all the documents requested a couple of nights ago. The migration solicitor in Sydney called at 6am this morning our time to advise that the next step is for us to go for our medical examinations and x-rays at a panel doctor. I was delighted to learn that baby doesn't have to have an x-ray! Apparently the main thing they are interested in is the chest x-rays. The rest of it shouldn't be a big deal as we had nothing to decl

A migration agent in Sydney has been appointed to help us with our visa application. We received a fairly comprehensive first email from a solicitor at this firm with a whole bunch of instructions. They put a bit of a different spin on the whole thing so it will be interesting learning from them while we go through the process. We need to complete a questionnaire ASAP but the link to their questionnaire doesn't work ... mmm! I can't wait to ask them about the necessity of the English test to see if their advice matches my research results but I'll behave myself, follow their instructions and wait for the appropriate moment. They have also requested an urgent telephone interview.
