Thought i would put an update on how things are going.
Our biggest worry when we arrived here was whether the girls would settle. It has been very up and down to be honest. Laura hated school and has left, the education board were on our backs at first as she wasnt allowed to just leave school before her 17th. She is meant to be in school, college or training. Well its been a few weeks now and she is working part time in a well known bakers and no one has been in touch since. She is most likely going to return to the Uk when she is 18 but is at least giving things a go here.
Kitch has made lots of friends and has a great time with them - however she is still very homesick missing her friends in the uk so much. She doesnt like school but then she didnt care for it in the uk either! It is much easier for kids the younger they come out here but hindsight is a great thing!
Neil is currently not working as he was unhappy in his job and left that - so is busy sending off CV s. He is hoping somthing comes up soon so he can escape the house!!
I am working in my second job with Silverchain as a community nurse which i love so far. The people are really friendly and supportive, lots of training being put my way.
We love living in Woodvale - excellent location everything you need is on your doorstep . We all hate the house we are living in but obviously cant buy just yet - we want a pool for next summer!. May consider moving to another rental in the near future.
Loving the Aussie lifestyle - i havent as yet felt homesick and cant imagine ever going back other than to visit - i miss my friends and family and the internet helps to keep in touch. Made a few new friends here - its so great when you go to the shops and someone calls your name in recognition - i found that hard at first not knowing anyone anywhere.
Enjoying going out for meals and drinks. Good friends with Mel and David ( they are a bad influence on us - we were so quiet and didnt drink before we met them!!!) and chat regularly to a few others off this site but mainly on face book. This site has been an amazing source of help and infomation both during the visa process and now in oz.
Good luck to all those waiting to come out here. Its not easy - far from it but at the moment it still feels worth it.
