He never settled here and being a quiet introverted boy he found it hard to make friends and intergrate.....in the end he missed his Mum and to us it made all the difference when we were talking to him about it.
He used to see his Mum (and maternal grandparents) every other weekend and I guess 6 months without seeing her became too much for him. We gave him the choice before we even came here as to whether he wanted to come or stay in the UK with his Mum.....he decided to come and that was the right decision for him. However the lifestyle didn't suit him and he missed home. We (and his Mum) explained all the pros and cons of staying or going so he made an informed decision.
He will always be my son and when he left he took a little bit of me too......it will be hard to adjust to life without him and we can only hope that he decides to come back.
Thanks for your thoughts though......very much appreciated
Well we are now a family of 7 as Daniel (Steves son from first marriage) has gone back to the UK to live with his Mum. He has never settled here in Oz and asked us a few months back whether he could return to the UK. We asked him to think about it and wait a while but 2 months on he hadn't changed his mind so.....
He has lived with us since he was 4 (he is now 13) and sending him back was heartbreaking but we respect his decision and hope he will be happier in Blighty.
Personally we think he will come back to Oz anyway once he realises how great it is and after going through a British winter but that is a wait and see I guess.
Jackie's brother was over this last 2 weeks and so we booked Daniel on the same flight home which was the best decision to make. His Mum will be waiting at the other end.
Its all very sad here today.....bad enough saying goodbye to my little bro but saying goodbye to Daniel was much worse. It is going to be very weird around here for a while.
We hope he is happy though and settles back in to UK life.
