Moved into our rental and it is totally filthy. The previous owners must have been real pigs. There was mould on the inside of our bedroom window and on the venetian blinds (why, why, why were the every invented? They have to be the most stupid things ever.) The carpets were foul so instead of going whale watching today we hired a carpet cleaner and spent the day cleaning. Actually, the whole weekend cleaning. And even still there is tons to do. How can people live like that? And with kids? What does it teach them? No wonder people become such slobs if this is what they're brought up with.
BUT the pool is fab and the kids are delighted with it. I know this was a priority for us and with temperatures rising the thought of not having a pool for our first Aussie summer would be daunting, but we still have to spend time in the house and it's really awful.
Our shipment is due to arrive Wednesday and I'm actually looking forward to it in the end - not to have the stuff here but that it will hide the nasty stains on the carpets and the peeling paintwork on the walls etc.
And why - can somebody tell me - is there so much dark brown in Aussie interiors? We have dark brown tiles on our bathroom floor which make it look like someone's not quite made it to the loo in time. Yuck! And dark brown taps - I feel my hands are dirtier after I've washed them! I thought dark brown had been consigned to the dustbin in the mid 70s - I know people thing Australia is like England 10 years ago but 40 years???
6 months is feeling a bit like a jail sentence right now. Do I get time off for good behaviour?
