|It's all very surprising but I seem to have got myself a plum of a part-time job. Way back before Xmas I applied (from an advert in the local freebie paper) to be part of a 'pool' of note-takers at the Central TAFE College, taking notes in lectures for disabled students. I got through but work is hit and miss. |
I thought, somewhat cheekily, that I'd contact the Edith Cowan University to see if they had any similar vacancies as it's a lot nearer home and, as work is not guaranteed though the TAFE, I thought I might as well. They replied straightaway, arranged an interview for this morning. Had a great chat with the woman in charge and by lunchtime have two students assigned to me with, hopefully, more to come. Cor Blimey!
The great thing is that I've avoided that old chestnut, 'what to do with the kids in the holidays' as it's term time only work. AND, for me, to be working in an academic environment will be beyond exciting. I have missed University every day since we left. I had the best 4 years of my life there, a real blast both socially and personally. I am not homesick now for England (although I do miss my lovely white kitchen!) as I have felt homesick for University since the mid-90s. I hope this will take me back home a bit!
