Wages: non-Award Rates

In many industries, award rates do not apply; wages are negotiated by the indivdual employers and employees.

This situation is the norm in private sector, non-unionised, "professional" jobs .

As stated previously, the minimum wages across Australia is around $16 per hour, equating to $610 per week or about $32,000 per annum.

Many jobs that do not require formal qualifications (eg cleaner, retail assistant, postman, bar and wait staff) pay around $20-$25 per hour ($750-$950pw, $40,000-$50,000pa).
